MORAL VALUES OF THE QUR'AN

"It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces Towards east or West; but it is righteousness- to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and practice regular charity; to fulfill the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient, in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the Allah-fearing."
AL-BAQARA - 177

The moral values of the community we live in is rather distorted. These moral principles which are the products of selfish passions and the greed of people, yield them to selfishness, arrogance, sarcasm, rudeness and cruelty. And people believe that in order to improve their living standards they have to cheat and deceive others.

However, this is not the values that Allah has determined for the human beings He created. Qur’an orders to be honorable, modest, trustworthy, kind, faithful, mature and sensitive. Qur’an tells even the way one should walk:

"And swell not thy cheek (for pride) at men, nor walk in insolence through the earth; for Allah loveth not any arrogant boaster. "
(LUQMAN, 18)

Duty of a believer is to apply these superior principles that Allah has decreed. But as we have mentioned above, today, believers live in such a community that these divine moral values have been deserted. For that reason, they have to be extremely careful and continuously judge themselves in order to get rescued  from the effects of this distorted culture.

This brochure has been prepared to help believers not to forget the basic Qur’an teachings, which we  should always keep in mind.

In the following pages, these moral principles and prayers that may have been forgotten, will be examined with the concerned Qur’an verses.
